What is the difference between paranormal activity theatrical and alternate

The knocking is much faster and louder in the Theatrical Cut. There's some added dialogue between Katie and Micah where they discuss how the stress is negatively affecting their lives. She says she's failing her university course and won't pass unless she "does something drastic" on her midterm.

He says he lost a large sum of money playing the stock market earlier, and that he'll be taking a break for awhile.

The demon's daytime attack is completely absent. The only time we get a good look at the picture that is smashed and clawed is when the two run up and down the hallway during the night to get away from the demon. There's an extra video attached to the "Goodbye Dianne" explanation at the computer. There is at least two minutes of added footage of the woman's ordeal, which has been heavily used in the TV commercials. Micah shows Katie footage of Dianne's demonic possession and subsequent exorcism as she is tied to a bed.

Her appearance transforms from healthy to disheveled and dark, with large cuts on her face and body. Eventually, the footage shows that the exorcism was unsuccessful, and the possessed Dianne becomes so destructive that she chews her own arm off to the elbow. The double-layered voice Katie projects in bed when she says, "Everything will be fine from now on" and later screaming downstairs uses a different effect to achieve this. Unlike the Theatrical Cut, the two voices are very distinct.

Unrated doesn't mean it is extra bloody or gory or full of nudity or whatever, it simply means it was not rated.

The unrated cuts are not the versions submitted for certification, that's all. Mdodmod posted There's, IIRC, 3 or 4 different endings to the first. The theatrical one with the jumpscare ending, the unrated where Katie cuts her throat, then there's one where the cops bust in after an extended period of time where Katie is just standing there doing nothing and they shoot her.

Ultimate board. Cause I don't want to read your spoilers, which version of the first film would you recommend? Theatrical or Unrated? I honestly thought the theatrical cuts of each were fine. Definitely go with the theatrical cut for the first, the alternate endings make the rest of the franchise impossible. More topics from this board Keep me logged in on this device. When it was released in the UK the movie ended with Sarah imagining that she escaped the cave only to then realize that she was still in the cave with the creatures closing in on her. The US ending cut that whole last part, so when she got out of the cave she actually got out of the cave.

The whole movie was creepy, especially when the paranormal activity started in the house, I was on the edge of my seat during the scene where Micah was looking in the attic, but nothing jumped at the camera to startle the audience or anything. It built the tension slowly with each scene and then in the end it hits you hard with Micah hitting the camera and Katie creeping us out. I think a lot of movie goers would have been disappointed with the original ending and it would not have been as successful as it has been.

The original ending just seemed to have left me wanting more. After Katie was shot I kept waiting for her to get up and attack the cops or something, as the demon, but nothing happened. So what do you guys think? What you may not be able to notice in the you tube version is as the cops are going throug the rest of the house and you see Katie there, the back bedroom light goes on for about 45 seconds and then goes back off to symbolize the demon has left her body. This is why after they shoot Katie they go in to that back room cause they hear something.

When she gets up she is holding the knife but then starts to snap out of it and is asking where Micah is. All the other movies that have been done like this Blair Witch Project, Quarantine have all ended with one last thing to make you jump.

To me this ending is more realistic which makes it more scary. Yeah your actually wrong. So just thought i would give my opinion of it, please do not speak so sure of yourself as it is only your opinion on the film and you shouldnt really give people false information. In my opinion the light only went on to attract the viewer to the back room because when the pigs go upstairs and katie approaches them the back room door slams shut then the police fire.

I believe the demon did this to cause the police to shoot. And I half expected something to happen to the cops as they entered that back room as well, but nothing happened. Thanks for the comment, I edited the synopsis of the original ending above to reflect this new information that I apparently missed.

I think it was what actually caused him to fire, since the slam is audible and probably freaked the dude out given the circumstances. I believe this noise was also what drew them toward the back room to investigate. Maybe the demon wanted Katie to die because he was done using her? For what, though? What was so important about Micah?

Was he going to cure cancer in the next 20 years or something? Actually I did like the original ending a lot cause left me thinking and asking more of it.

Anyways, as you recall the reason the demon was haunting Katie its cause it wants her. Also, after watching it over and over again, in the original ending someone actually shot Katie from the room where the light went on and off. I watched the original ending which i thought was good but i have been hearing of the theatrical ending shown only in theaters duh … but i would like to watch it if anybody does have a link that allows people to watch it without having to fill out surveys and is free i would appreciate it if they sent it to my email or post the link here so i can pass it on … this was a really frightening movie kinda raises eyebrows on wether things do happen of this nature… laperica yahoo.

VERDICT: For my part I'm glad they changed the original ending: the whole "Katie Myers" angle turns a great ghost story into a routine slasher flick cliche; the catatonic trance for days on end and death-by-police finale seems way too drawn out and not at all scary. Finally, the current ending - with the footnote that Katie is still at large - leaves the door open for a new Boogeyman mythos, and, of course, a sequel.

Most importantly, the current ending is this best round-off for the themes of demonic possession and supernatural forces at work in the real world, which the rest the film does considerable work to set up. So there you have it - some of the noted changes that were made to Paranormal Activity. Speaking of which: are you happy with the current version of Paranormal Activity?
